The offered position
AAK believes in supplementing traditional market driven innovation with a research based approach. A Product & Technology Development Team (PTD) of international research scientists are working on longer term projects aiming to define the future industry standards. The group is led by AAKs Chief Technology Officer/VP R&D.
The team of research scientist will be expanded to include an application driven and hands-on Research Scientist Bakery. This is a unique opportunity to combine focused research, application of new technologies and hands-on laboratory work in an industrial context. As project responsible, you will be defining and running a few very focused mid to long term projects aimed at setting new standards in the bakery industry. This includes:
- Working closely with global and local Business Development teams and Customer Innovation colleagues to develop market driven opportunities
- Finding innovative solutions for existing market pains through persistent efforts
- Working at different levels – from the academic to the application oriented
- Managing projects following a well described stage-gate model using milestones so that deadlines are met
- Developing and maintaining an external network at universities, ingredient companies, equipment suppliers, etc.
You will based in Merksem near Antwerp, Belgium and you will report to the Team leader PTD Bakery applications on the location. Some travelling, mainly within Europe must be expected.
Qualifications
You have acquired minimum a couple of years R&D expertise from the food industry (preferably bakery) on top of a solid theoretical foundation on Ph.D. or M.Sc. level. You are a quick learner with the ability to think out-of-the-box and your working style is independent and result-driven. You love food science and even more importantly you are driven by a passion for developing specialty ingredients for bakery applications.
Being comfortable working in an international group with many internal and external contacts and stakeholders is a prerequisite for success in the role. Fluency in oral and written English is a requirement.
