Introduction to the application

First impressions count – also when it comes to job applications. At Foodjob Nordic, we read many applications every week, and our experience is clear: A good introduction makes the difference. A strong application does not begin with “My name is…” or “I saw your job posting on Jobindex…” – but with something that arouses interest and shows who you are as a candidate. Often, we and other HR people spend very little time deciding whether to spend more time on your candidacy, so it is important to be sharp.
Here you will find our best advice for writing an introduction that stands out – and that makes you want to read on.
🎯 1. Make it clear to us, why you really want this job
Start with your motivation. Why are you interested in the role, and what turns you on about the company, the products, or the industry?
Example:
“I am applying for the position of Quality Manager at [company] because I am passionate about ensuring high food safety in an industry that is constantly evolving – and because I see a commonality of values with your ambitions in sustainability and innovation.”
🧩 2. Point out your match with the job – without repeating your CV
Give a concrete hint in the introduction about how you match the job. It can be short but precise.
Example:
“With more than 8 years of experience in the dairy industry and solid insight into HACCP and management systems, I am ready to take responsibility for both operations and team development.”
✨ 3. Show energy – not humility
You shouldn’t apologize for applying for the job – quite the opposite. A good introduction shows that you are curious, professional and believe that you can make a difference.
Avoid:
“I hope I can be considered for the job…”
Use instead:
“I look forward to the opportunity to contribute my experience – and help create value for you.”
✅ Remember: A good introduction…
Is targeted and personal – not generic, and shows that you have familiarized yourself with the company and the role, which makes the reader want to read more, and is preferably 3-5 lines – not a whole page.
Do you want some sparring on your application?
At Foodjob Nordic, we are happy to help you further – regardless of whether you are applying for a specific position or need sparring on how to best present yourself as a candidate.
