Shipping & Logistics Manager – Food Ingredients

Foodjob Nordic is seeking a Shipping & Logistics Manager on behalf of AKV Langholt A.m.b.A. The objectives are clear, and the future ambitions are high. Based at the Company Headquarter near Aalborg in Northern Denmark, you will be heading the Shipping & Logistics Department and work in close cooperation with Operations, Sales, Production Planning and other colleagues, and many external stakeholders. You will report to the CCO in this very lean and flat organization with a high level of entrepreneurial spirit. 
 
The position is a new role, and you will optimize a complex, commercial value chain of logistics and operations regarding international transports and warehousing, and set up guidelines to ensure optimal logistics performance in cooperation with relevant suppliers, forwarding agents and various transportation companies to carry our products safely and swiftly from supplier to customer. The products are delivered in powder transport trucks, containers, big bags (typically 1 ton), and 5, 20 and 25 kg plastic bags. 

 
Key Focus Areas:
  •  Proactive and hands-on attitude with clients to secure best-in-class performance and delivery on time
  • Establishment and optimization of the entire logistics chain of the business focusing on optimal performance, in- and outbound logistics and analytical, data driven insight in potential competitive advantages
  •  Securing payment and delivery terms with clients including communication regarding proper documentation for payments with banks, clients and the sales force (D/C or L/C)
  •  Contract negotiations with key stakeholders and suppliers, primarily regarding logistics solutions
  •  Setup of precise guidelines for logistics services in terms of compliance regarding selection of logistics providers, loading and delivery deadlines, exchange of departure and arrival information and correct documentation in accordance with customers’ needs
  •  Handling of complaints, damages, fines and special arrangements with suppliers, transportation companies and warehouses to optimize operations in compliance with client’s terms and conditions 
  •  Ensure that the team is fully up to date and knowledgeable about status on transports and products
  •  Act as sparring partner for experts on customs/licenses issues 
Candidate Profile
  • Educated at degree level or equivalent (ideally logistics bias) combined with current and in-depth experience of international, commercial food/FMCG operations for the BtB markets
  •  Outstanding analytical skills and ability to develop close and effective working relationships with all key internal/external stakeholders and demonstrate positive influencing skills
  •  Self-motivated and positive attitude with high levels of energy and drive to achieve targets
  • True logistical and logical mindset and able to act upon own initiative using sound commercial judgement whilst ensuring the team and key stakeholders are kept informed and updated
  •  Strong commercial negotiation skills
  •  Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully motivate a team
  •  Good written and verbal communication skills with high level of IT literacy, Navision is preferred

AKV Langholt AmbA (Andelskartoffelmelsfabrikken Vendsyssel A.m.b.A) is a Danish potato starch factory situated in Langholt north of Aalborg in the Northern Jutland region of Denmark. AKV is a co-operative owned by 175 potato farmers, who each have their own individual AKV potato production quota. AKV produces modified starch as well as native potato starch and other starches along with potato protein concentrate, potato fibers, and potato juice. More than 95% of the total production is exported. AKV has had a sales joint with the American company Cargill for many years, but will start own sales and sales organization in 2019.
