IBA Fair 2018

Our consultant Paul visited IBA Fair to catch up on what's new in the bakery sector

We had the pleasure to visit the IBA Fair in September in Munich. IBA is the world’s leading trade fair for bakery, confectionary and snacks and is thus  one of the most important events for the bakery sector. The fair has existed since 1949 and it takes place every three years in “Messe München” in Munich.

The fair is the perfect meeting place for experts of the bakery, pastry, and snack trade. With 1,373 exhibitors, 76,800 visitors, 2.1 billion euros in trade fair contracts, and 100 lectures, it is an event where a lot is happening. We met with industrial equipment manufacturers of all kinds as well such as food ingredients producers and distributors.

Some trends and technologies particularly caught our attention:

  • “Super bread”, which can contain insects or any kind of highly nutritious ingredients (Kale, cauliflower, Chia …)
  • Baked goods via drone:
  • Thanks to 3D food printing technology, to you can now customize and follow a person’s specific nutritional needs (personalized nutrition is a growing trend, as we could see from the service Nestlé recently launched in Japan.
  • Digitized and smart ovens
  • More efficient production technology, more hygienic design, sustainable packaging

We also had the pleasure of trying virtual reality glasses and watch 360-degree videos to see right into renowned master bakeries from all over Europe such as Germany, Greece, Iceland, and Austria. It was a great event in a lively atmosphere. Messe München’s venue is definitely a great place for such events.

Now Foodjob Nordic’s team is looking forward to attending the SIAL fair in Paris!
