Senior Application Scientist – Plant-based fermentations

Foodjob Nordic is looking for a senior scientist ready to fill a central role in Chr. Hansen’s strategic lighthouse: Fermented Plant Bases.

Chr. Hansen’s state of the art innovation center in Hørsholm is home to world class microbial platforms and fermentation expertise. Since 1874 Chr. Hansen has built a collection of around 40.000 bacterial strains. With more than 300 academic partnerships and an R&D platform of 8% of turnover and 17% of employees in R&D and application, the company has the science base to grow a better world, naturally. In 2019 Chr. Hansen was awarded the most sustainable company in the world.

Position

Reporting to the Director Plant-based in Food Cultures & Enzymes Application, you will be joining a highly engaged, dynamic, international team of application specialists working across the R&D value chain to develop new innovative applications using novel strains and culture solutions. Key targets are dairy alternatives, mainly yoghurt and cheese types.

The main focus areas in the role are:

  • Prioritizing, planning and executing and deploying results and knowledge generated in different project types (competence, NPD, process, etc.).
  • Driving idea generation and maturations of potential new products and competence projects, including grant applications and IP files.
  • Acting as scientific expert in the relevant applied science, leading cross-functional competence networks and supporting internally, incl. application and R&D teams.
  • Managing external projects and partnerships as a scientific specialist, incl. international research consortia, collaborations with suppliers, academia, supervising students (up to PhD level).

As the guardian of good science you will be driving applied science on both a strategic level as well as on a more operational level. The interfaces of the role will be spanning from academia to technicians, and cooperation, networking and communication both externally and internally will be a central part of the way of working.

The position is based at Chr. Hansen in Hørsholm, Denmark. A travelling activity of around 25 days per year should be expected.

Profile

We are looking for a highly skilled applied scientist with a proven track record in academia and/or industry research. An academic background on PhD level and significant professional experience with fermentation, protein ingredients or related fields is required and a broad knowledge base in plant-based applications is highly prioritized.

On a personal level the right candidate has a flexible and entrepreneurial mindset as well as creativity, drive and a true passion for developing the future of plant-based food. Excellent communication and collaboration skills and a desire to engage with the team and other stakeholders are also prerequisites for success in the role.
